Christmas & New Year – Results

A happy 2014 to all Photo Challengers!

This is a fantastic photographic start to the year, lots of excellent entries and I’m especially pleased to see that some people have taken on the advice we discussed a few weeks ago when we did candlelight and fairy light πŸ™‚ If anyone wants to say a few words about their work, please do so in the comments.

Please bear with me… there will be a short delay as I write something for the first challenge of 2014 πŸ˜›

It seems pretty quiet on the comments so far, so let me start!

I think my favourite two pictures overall are Debi‘s and Jess‘s – both for the same reason. Both have wonderful use of bokeh. Debi, yours captures a wonderful and fleeting moment, while Jess‘s has exquisite composition.

I also like the graduation of the sky in Paul‘s photo. That’s a nice shade of blue – is it natural, or did you manipulate the picture, or use a graduated filter of some kind?

Tomm‘s picture is very playful and fun – well done!

And finally, Kirsty gets bonus points for submitting a picture of a cat. Apparently there’s a shortage of those on the internet πŸ˜‰

My photo is of Avonview cemetery in Bristol. I hadn’t intended to photograph it – I was walking to a nearby place in Bristol that had flooded. I had to take an alternative and unfamiliar route (due to flooding :P) and I happened upon the cemetery.

I think Jess’s is a great capture, the bokeh seems to falling into the cup or is it floating out of the cup. Also tomms pic of the brazen hussy at least she’s wearing a hat.

Happy 2014 everyone and a belated Merry Christmas! I’ve been a bit m.i.a. with the holidays but now that the air has settled some i’m happy to be back. Thanks Jonathan and Ally for the nice words. The cup and bokeh has been done before, however not by me :-P. This was taken late Christmas evening while having some down time after a long day and i decided to play around with bokeh using my Christmas tree in the background, had a lot of fun with it. I almost lightened the picture up but i really like the warm and cozy feel to the muted light, really captures the essence of the evening i think.

I really love Tomm’s, both for the nice contrast with the splash of red as well as the humor, plus i love statues. I also like the pictures from Jonathan and Paul, both of you have that graduation of the sky as Jonathan had mentioned and it adds much to these shots. And Debi, I am so sorry for you and your family’s loss, i hope you find peace in the new year. Your picture is a beautiful way to remember her by.

Very much looking forward to to 2014’s photo challenges and learning some new techniques, like light painting!

Bokelicious choices: Jess’s use to suggest vapour, and Debi as the perfect background for her shot. I also really like the colours in Paul’s!
Mine was taken during a stroll at my parents’ house in Holland. I thought it was funny and colourful. Plus I’m sure to get a nod from Ally, the statue photographer :p
